The Crisp Packet Recycling Scheme
At BJS we understand the responsibility we have to reduce the impact of our packaging on the environment, and we're on it! We are pleased to share with you that we have signed up to a crisp recycling scheme ran by Walkers Crisps and TerraCycle. We are now collecting crisp packets from in and outside of school. Moreover, as we are the only place in the local vicinity to register as a collection point, we are open to accepting crisp packets from out of school. Everyone can get involved: individuals, companies and community groups; so please spread the word. We can recycle crisp packets made by any brand. We can’t accept: popcorn bags, crisp tubes, pretzel bags and meat snack bags.
TerraCycle Points - You can help our school each time you recycle.
TerraCycle® points can be redeemed by us. 1 TerraCycle® point is worth £0.01.
Shipments over 2kg = 200 points/kilo (2 kg = approximately 400 crisp packets) and 200 points = £2.
We want your crisp packets!
Please give them to your child to put them in the crisp packet bin in the hall. Thank you!

The Big Battery Hunt
As a school we have registered to be a part of the UK’s biggest school battery recycling programme.
Last year schools managed to recycle 4 million batteries. We have joined the hunt to encourage young people to think about the importance of recycling. Our challenge is to collect all our used batteries and help us to recycle more than ever before!
There will be a collection box in the school reception area.
Every collection enters our school to win some great prizes.
Personal Care and Beauty Recycling Programme
The community of BJS is making a concerted effort to ‘do our part’ to address the global crisis of plastic waste. Therefore, along with our other recycling projects – crisp packets, pringle tubes and batteries – we are joining schools nationally in starting to collect small plastics and beauty product packaging. To find out more click here. We do hope you will help support us by sending in the outlined products.
Accepted waste can be viewed here.
