Accelerated Reader is a computer program that supports our children with their independent reading practice. The children will have opportunities to read during the school day as well as for their home learning; when they are finished, they take a short quiz on the computer. Passing the quiz is an indication that a child has understood what was read and has been able to recall key information or infer from the text. Accelerated Reader gives feedback based on the quiz results, which the teachers and learning support assistants (LSAs) then use to set goals and direct ongoing reading practice for each individual child.
Children using Accelerated Reader have a range of books to read - this makes reading a much more enjoyable experience as they have the opportunity to choose from a range of books that are interesting to them.
If a child does not pass a quiz, the teacher or LSA may help your child in a number of ways:
Accelarated Reader Books
In this section you will find booklists for each level of our reading system, Accelerated Reader. Each child in the school has been assessed to establish their comprehension level, and the children know the level they are currently reading at. They will always have a reading book from school which has a sticker attached which is associated with the book's level (as a decimal number).
These booklists can be used to further support reading at home, for example, when choosing a new book for Birthdays/Christmas or even when borrowing something from their local library.
