SEND Curriculum Statement
At Brackley C of E Junior School, we believe every child, including those with SEND and those who are disadvantaged, deserves an ambitious, inspiring and joyful curriculum. Our curriculum is carefully designed so that every pupil can access and enjoy rich learning experiences that build knowledge, confidence and a love of learning.
We know our children, and we build on their strengths and interests. Learning is rooted in our local context so that it feels meaningful and relevant, helping pupils make connections between the world they know and the wider world beyond it.
To support all learners, teachers use a wide range of inclusive strategies, including:
Low-stakes quizzes and regular retrieval practice to secure long-term understanding.
A carefully sequenced curriculum that builds on prior knowledge in small progressive steps.
Explicit vocabulary teaching and structured talk to strengthen language and comprehension.
Hands-on, practical experiences that bring abstract ideas to life.
Adaptations such as word banks, sentence scaffolds and visual supports to enable independence and success.
Careful curriculum design that builds in opportunities for enjoyment, curiosity and creativity.
Responsive teaching, adapting lessons to pupils’ needs and interests while keeping expectations high.
Pastoral and support staff who work closely with teachers and families to remove barriers to learning and nurture wellbeing.
Subject leaders have a clear understanding of how their curriculum meets the needs of all learners. They continuously review and refine their subjects to ensure the same high-quality experience for every child.
Our vision is simple: every pupil, whatever their starting point, is known, included, valued and challenged, learning within a curriculum that allows children to live life in all its fullness.
