At Brackley C of E Junior School, we believe that play is an essential part of childhood. Playtimes are far more than a break from learning, they are an opportunity for children to develop confidence, creativity, resilience, teamwork and independence.
Our extensive grounds provide children with a wide range of opportunities to explore, imagine and challenge themselves. Whether they are building dens, creating imaginative games, climbing, balancing, playing sport or simply spending time with friends, we encourage children to take appropriate risks in a safe and supportive environment. Staff supervise closely, helping children to assess risk, solve problems and make sensible decisions, rather than removing every challenge.
This approach helps children develop the skills they need both in school and beyond: perseverance, communication, responsibility and confidence.
Our commitment to adventurous, meaningful play is supported by our Risk–Benefit Assessment, which explains how we balance children's safety with the many developmental benefits of active outdoor play. We encourage parents and carers to read this document to understand the thinking behind our play provision.
